Budget
set for Restoration
The budget for the Grand Opera House
of the South restoration project has been set at $3.7 million.
The State of Louisiana has allotted the project $1.15 million
in Capital Outlay funds, and the balance
of the budget will be attained through the generosity of individuals,
corporations and foundations.
Also contributing to the needed amount
will be fund raising activities and events, an aggressive capital
campaign, and in-kind donations of goods and services.
"The
initial response to our budget formulation has been very encouraging,"
said Kimberly Gielen Gattle, Executive Director of Grand Opera
House of the South. "The support of the State of Louisiana demonstrates
that this restoration project is truly an investment in our
community, our region, and our state. Former State Representative Gil
Pinac and former State Senator Fred Hoyt worked hard to make this part
of the state budget, which will not only provide needed funds,
but also stimulate participation by all who wish to see this
project succeed."
Gattle also noted that fund raising
for the Grand Opera House of the South restoration will greatly
benefit from the fact that there are a number of significant
naming opportunities associated with the restoration.
"Our goal is to re-open the doors of
Grand Opera House of the South as soon as possible," Gattle
said. "This budget will allow us to do that, even as we continue
to restore the opera house to its once and future glory."
